What is an .eml file?

An .eml file is one email saved in the standard internet message format. It holds the header (who sent it, to whom, when), the message and the attachments, all in one file.

You get .eml files from Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Windows Mail and many other programs when you save or drag out a message. In Gmail, open a message, choose Show original and then Download original. Some systems also hand over email records or archives as .eml files.

How to convert EML to PDF

  1. Drop the .eml file onto the box at the top of this page, or click Choose files. You can pick several at once.
  2. Read the email. The viewer shows the subject, from, to, cc, date and the message. If you added several files, click one in the list to open it.
  3. Click Save as PDF. A print-ready view opens with the header, the message and the list of attachments, and your browser's print dialog appears.
  4. Choose PDF as the destination. In Chrome or Edge, set Destination to Save as PDF. In Firefox, choose Save to PDF. In Safari on a Mac, click the PDF button at the bottom-left and pick Save as PDF.
  5. Save the file. The PDF is made by your own browser, on your computer.

On an iPhone or iPad, use Share > Print from the print view, then share the preview as a PDF.

Many .eml files into one PDF

Added a batch? Click Save all as one PDF. Every email goes into one document in date order, oldest first, and each one starts on a new page. That's handy for a conversation thread, a dispute, or anything you need to hand over as a single file.

Using it as an EML viewer

You don't have to make a PDF. The tool is also a plain .eml viewer for when you just want to read a message without setting up a mail program.

Your email stays on your computer

The converter runs entirely in your browser. Your .eml files are read on your device and are never uploaded to our server or stored anywhere. Only this page and its scripts come from us. The PDF is created by your browser's own print function.
