Privacy policy
Last updated: October 29, 2026.
This policy explains how Stanislav Semenenco ("we", "us"), operator of PubRescue at https://pubrescue.net, handles information when you use the service. Contact: support@pubrescue.net, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.
1. Files you upload
- We process the files you upload (.pub files and ZIP archives) only to convert them to PDF and Word and to show you previews and downloads.
- Retention: uploaded files, converted PDFs, Word files and previews of a free upload are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload. For a paid upload they are kept for 7 days after the purchase so you can download them again, then deleted.
- Each upload is stored under a random identifier. Anyone who has the link to your upload can see its previews, so don't share it if your documents are private.
- We don't read, publish, sell or use your documents for any other purpose, including training software, unless you opt in as described in the next section. We may look at a specific file only if you ask us for support with it and give us permission.
2. Optional: "Keep my files to improve PubRescue's conversion"
The upload form has a checkbox, unticked by default. If you tick it, we keep a copy of the original .pub files of that upload (never the converted results, and nothing else) after the upload itself is deleted. We use these copies only to find and fix conversion errors in our software: a developer may open them, compare our output with the original layout and run them through test versions of the converter. They are not published, not shared with third parties and not used for any other purpose. You can ask us to delete them at any time by emailing the upload link or the file names to support@pubrescue.net. Please don't tick the box for documents that contain other people's personal data unless you are allowed to share them for this purpose.
3. Information we collect
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and request logs, used to run the service, prevent abuse (for example rate limits) and fix errors. Logs are rotated automatically and kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service.
- Payment data: payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email, billing address, company details for invoices and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive the order details (such as order number, email and product) but never your full card details.
- Pass codes: if you buy the Organization plan, we store the pass code, its expiry date and the related order number. In your browser the code is kept in a cookie so it works automatically.
- Conversion statistics: for each file we store technical figures about the conversion (number of pages, time taken, how many text boxes overflowed, whether the file could be read fully). These contain no document text and are deleted with the upload.
4. Cookies
We use one functional cookie (pr_pass) to remember an Organization pass code you entered or bought. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
5. Legal bases (EU/UK users)
We process files and technical data to perform the service you request (contract), log and abuse-prevention data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure, and retained files on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by asking us to delete them.
6. Where data is stored
The service runs on servers located in Germany (EU) provided by Contabo GmbH. Lemon Squeezy may process payment data in the United States and other countries under appropriate safeguards.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data and to object to or restrict processing. Uploaded files are deleted automatically, but you can also email us to delete them earlier, or to delete files you chose to let us keep. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
The service is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
9. Browser extension
- The PubRescue browser extension (Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons) sends a file to https://pubrescue.net only when you choose it, drop it, or ask the extension to open it. Those files are handled exactly as described above.
- The extension keeps a list of your recent uploads (their links and file names) in your browser's local extension storage. This list is never sent to us.
- If you turn on "Offer to open .pub files I download", the extension looks at the file names of finished downloads in your browser to recognise .pub files. Download information never leaves your browser unless you click the notification to convert that file.
- When you open a .pub link with the extension, it asks for permission to access that one website and downloads that one file.
- The extension contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
